When Secret app was first conceptualised,
It was meant to cultivate honesty by allowing people to
Freely express personal thoughts and one's inner secrets
Anonymously to those close to them. This was meant to create empathy
And allow users to discover what the people they care about are truly thinking.

Hence, when this application took the community by storm,
Like a parasite, it would infect the minds of those with a propensity to slander,
And at the same time attracting an even greater majority who would not actively partake
In the disparagement, yet in the act of reception feeds the parasite.
Changing our perspective, but moving along the same grain, we could see
A symbiotic relationship is being formed between three main entities;
The intracellular parasite or the one causing harm,
The host or the one that is being harmed,
The vector or the Secret app that does the job of transmission, and
The epiparasite or what I see as the mass majority that feeds on
The intracellular parasite, and inadvertently triggers the entire chain mechanism.

What is perturbing to me is the hypocrisy of the community.
A few, if not all, but still representative of the whole.
Just a few moons back, many of us were gathered in pink to celebrate
What we would deem "the Freedom to Love". It was meant as an
Affirmation that the community could bond together; and a positive
Demonstration for inclusiveness, diversity and the freedom to love.
Like a house of cards, the reputation of the community is threatened
By cyber-bullying and hate crime.

Imagine, what would be the consequences if a tangentially-harassed member
Unable to deal with the negative publicity, decides to end his or her life.
How would the press portray this incident? How would the community be perceived
As the acrid and festering wounds go public? It can happen.
In 2013, a 12-year old Rebecca Ann Sedwick committed suicide after being
Relentlessly bullied in the same manner.

It is thus my hope, as an observer, that this outbreak,
Like any potent epidemic, would destroy itself.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions,
I do not use Secret. Do you?
