We sat by the table beside the red fire hosereel
You ordered your toast with salmon
I asked for pancakes and bacon
And tea. Lychee coconut to be specific
It's a non-alcoholic Saturday brunch after all
I noticed the message etched on the green metal plate
TURN ON INLET VALVE BEFORE TURNING OFF HOSE
If I ran, pulled and unrolled the reel with me
How far would it stretch?
Would it meander like a river to the shore
Or would it go further, perhaps to the moon?
And if so, I could take a deep breath
Hold it for as long as I can, in the oxygen-deprived
Satellite, and bury my dream seeds in the luna soil
Then to water them with the hose
In the hope that they will flourish with life and brilliance
The waitress arrives with the pot of tea
And I'm back to earth once more
With toast, salmon, pancakes, fire hosereel
And the seeds in that pocket, that pocket.
