:: Yuki and Tigger :;

It was never a conscious decision - to have another member to the family.

Tigger has been with the family for more than a year now. He has grown from a tiny timid kitten to a fine male specimen. Well, he is still a little timid, but he has grown familiar with the home environment. I think this makes him more comfortable, and at ease. There were certain situations where I felt that Tigger might be feeling a little lonely. Maybe Tigger never felt this way; and this was merely the superimposition of my perception.

But when I met K for dinner, and he mentioned that S found an abandoned stray kitten near his home, I felt a connection immediately. With this new flicker of life. A life which I had not experienced first hand, yet felt, in a strange way, an association. That sparked the decision towards adoption.

Now, little Yuki (aptly named by S) is about eight weeks old. Thanks to the nuture of her foster mom D, and our subsequent care,  she has transformed from a malnourished speck of life to a hyper "chilli-padi" white furball.

When D first brought her to our place, Tigger did not react well. He hissed and was on his guard. This animosity lasted a week, and we had to separate them to allow them to slowly adjust to each other. Now, three weeks thereafter, they are already the best of friends.

Hence, this afternoon, when Tigger was napping at my lap, Yuki crept over to lie beside him, it brought a smile to my face. I guess, in the grand scheme of things, we have saved a life and brought joy to another. And maybe not just joy to Tigger, but everyone else in the family.
