The Undelivered Letters: Letter One

It has been raining often these days. Of course, the sun still shines in Singapore, but is
Frequently interrupted by passing showers. The news on TV said something about the monsoon
Causing more rains than usual, but fortunately there are no reported incidents of flooding.
Nor drowning. I like the overcast skies, and cool breezy weather, and the rains do not upset me at all;
I drive most of the time, and the only inconvenience is that fact that I have to be more vigilant when I drive.
I have taken care to apply a coat of waterproofing onto my car windscreen; I have this eccentric joy in
Looking at the initial globules of raindrops falling from the skies - they bounce off the windscreen
And coalesce into a nourished sheet of puddle. The rain then grows heavy, and the magic disappears.
Your birthday has just passed. How did you celebrate it? Did you throw a big party with plenty of delicious
Food and drinks, and did you end it off with a lovely birthday cake? Or was it a quiet affair with just
A couple of good ol' friends, in your favorite restaurant at the edge of the city? Or did you prefer to just let the
Day pass, and regard it as a non-event? I like birthdays at the beginning of the year - they are akin to dreams,
Resolutions, youth, potential energy and the promise of time to act, to deliver and to fulfill. On the other hand,
Birthdays, like mine, towards the end of the year, are synonymous with old age, the last day of a holiday, or
A moldy piece of forgotten pastry in the fridge - the time has expired, and there isn't much time for anything,
Anyway.
I hope the cold spell is not causing you distress. Around the world, extreme has become the new commonplace.
China is enduring its coldest winter in nearly 30 years, and Eastern Russia is also freezing - to the point that even
The traffic lights have stopped working in the city of Yakutsk. Winter is coming back with a vengeance over the
Next few weeks - temperatures are falling and outbreaks of snow are expected in UK and northern Europe -
And likely prolonged. Keep warm, don't freeze, and be happy always.
