:: Thump Thump ::
The piling works at the construction site next door has been going on for the longest time.
It started as a low-pitched rumbling, almost inaudible to the ear, in the beginning.
Then, I was in a meeting room, preparing for my conference call. I somewhat felt that
I could hear a pounding sound, but I couldn't be sure. It was just a slight sound,
And seemed to be coming from the air conditioning vent right above my head.
I stared at the vent, and imagined it to be the distant murmur of a compressor.
Or some unknown machine which was hard at work to ventilate the entire complex.
But the sound grew, in both definition and loudness - thump, thump
Thump, thump. Thump, thump thump. Like the heartbeat of a sleeping giant,
Which would awake at the slightest smell of blood and then go into a rampage
And devour everything in sight. Have you ever experienced such a beat,
Which seemed to fade away when you are busy with the on-goings of
What you deem important, but grows in focus when you take a pause, and then
Become aware of it again? And it continues to go on, day after day, thumping away,
To the point that you end up dedicating a blog entry to it, to this insignificant
Thumping piling that would result in a magnificent structure for the next half a century.
