Towards Kiyomizu

The end of the year is like the end of a roller coaster ride -
The year starts off with a steady climb up to the highest point.
With the rattling of the gears. To remind us that we are not static.
That we are in for a breath-taking ride. The exhilarating plunge
Engages us as we move to the near turn. And next loop.
And next curve. And then - before we know it, the brakes are applied.
The ride slows. And then, lo and behold, it is the end of the year.

I feel like the world is moving faster than me.
The world is moving at double-quick time.
Tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock - It is day.
Then night - In a blink of an eye. Being at a temperate spot
Made it worse. The skies darkened before five in the evening.
Initially, it was first of december. And then I was on the plane to Kansai.
Then it was my birthday at Koyasan.

I blinked. And then I was back in Singapore.
And now I am in K.L. Soon it will be Christmas,
Then the end of the year. The end of the year -
Is always a good time to reflect. Since the world
Seems to move at a faster pace, one's mind
Should slow down somewhat, giving one some space
To pause, and frame the year's moments.

Like portraits hanging on a gigantic wall.
