It was some time in April last year
When 5Degrees organized the movie evening
At The Garden Slug, and we watched the most
Amazing Show - Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
The movie was great, but the portion that left the
Most impression on me was the lyrics and the imagery
Of the song, The Origin of Love.
I know I've blogged about this before,
But a few days away from Valentine's Day,
I was reminded again on this imagery
This beautiful portrayal of love.
How two strangers can meet for the first time, and yet
Have that unique familiar feeling
Of closeness and comfort, that stirs the heart.
And there's a pain, because both parties
Were once together, sharing a common body
Sharing a common soul, and the pain,
They call it love.
And thus, both try to come together again
They make love.
And while some halves have found their counterparts,
Others thought they found, tried to match, but failed
And then, there are some, that are still looking,
I wish you a Valentine's Day in advance
And urge you to listen to this song
For you may better understand the Origin
And one day find your love.
Last time I saw you
We had just split in two.
You were looking at me.
I was looking at you.
You had a way so familiar,
But I could not recognize,
Cause you had blood on your face;
I had blood in my eyes.
But I could swear by your expression
That the pain down in your soul
Was the same as the one down in mine.
That's the pain,
Cuts a straight line
Down through the heart;
We called it love.
So we wrapped our arms around each other,
Trying to shove ourselves back together.
We were making love,
It was a cold dark evening,
Such a long time ago,
When by the mighty hand of Jove,
It was the sad story
How we became
Lonely two-legged creatures,
It's the story of
The origin of love.
That's the origin of love.
