:: Tau Kwa Pow @ Katong ::

And so, we had lunch at the corner coffeeshop that has
Stood the test of time amidst Katong's changing facade.
The natural forces of weathering have reduced the dilapidated Red House Bakery
Of all life, and not-so-natural forces of social erosion has
Led to the proliferation of $1 internet cafes manned by obvious non-locals
And DOTA-centric gaming cafes that operate round the clock.
Katong Mall has turned into a kindergarten of kingergartens, and
The long queues outside Aston's have become a common sight.
Nearby, Haagen Dazs has been replaced by a slimming centre,
While the upper levels of the row of shophouses have morphed into
a dojo for Tae-Kwan-Do, Bodycraft the (mini) gym, and the latest -
An art gallery, in full glory to curious passengers on moving double-decker buses.
Despite the shift in times, a hardy few remain.
Like the salted Chicken place, and the few enduring Peranakan eateries .
And this coffeeshop, which serves appetizing poultry fare in the day,
And turns into a bustling beer garden at night.
Even so, things are not the same.
"The tau kwa pow has shrunk," M remarked.
"The plate used to only be able hold two pieces," he added.
Now it holds three.
We will see what happens
Five years later.

the social erosion that i was pinpointing was referring to the face-to-face physical interaction, that is slowly being replaced by virtual personas on the world wide web. as well as game personas. as opposed to sitting together for a picnic or a mahjong session.
